Closing Time Is A Rebirth

Closing time…every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. – Semisonic

Closing time
Time for you to go out into the world…Closing time
Time for you to go back to the places you will be from.
Closing time…Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.
– lyrics by Semisonic 1998.

We can’t look at 2020 as a new beginning until we look at the other beginning’s end. I woke up with this song in my head this morning. Do you know it? It’s an oldie, but I like it.

Closing time…every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.

Dan Wilson of Semisonic explains the double meaning of the song. “Some bouncers yelling things, closing time coming, all that imagery, literally, that’s how the song started and then when I was halfway done, I started realizing the whole thing was a pun about being born, so I just made sure that the rest of the thing could ride with that double meaning, but nobody got the joke and I didn’t bother to explain. I thought everyone would get it.”

“It’s all about being born and coming into the world, seeing the bright lights, cutting the cord, opening up into something deeper and more universal,” Wilson told Mojo.

I’m not great with endings. I don’t think there’s many endings in my life that aren’t covered in claw marks from me not wanting to let go of whatever it was – relationships, homes, jobs and even vacation time. I’m not good with goodbyes and maybe that’s just me. I’m not even really good with them when there’s something wonderful on the horizon. But saying goodbye to 2019 wasn’t hard for me because I’ve been evolving over time.

What is evolving? The Evolution of Remembering Me or Remevolution as I’m calling this, sounds like a fancy phrase, but there is a lot behind it. It’s a journey, just like the life journey we’re on. It’s a way in which we can see from the observer point of view in 20/20 (and 2020!) hindsight that clears out the misunderstandings, the red flags, the shame, the burdens and the toxic beliefs that we’ve been holding onto in order to make room for our growth into who we authentically are without carrying the heaviness that’s been weighing us down over time.

It’s a clearing in order to begin with a fresh start where we’re centered, grounded and we know that we are only responsible for ourselves. When we’re living with gratitude and we are honoring ourselves and others to be who we all are, then there’s a peace that comes along with it. Believe me, we all have this capability, but sometimes we just need a friend to guide us and to lend a listening ear as we process.

From a young age, I was a listening ear. People would tell me what was going on and I was able to understand from the observer point of view. I could see the heart of the situation even when it was clouded in a smoke screen. I’ve cultivated that strength into a sort of channeling now as I’ve grown older and wiser and more open to my gifts which has helped me immensely.

I want to help you to clear out the past in a kind way in order to find peace in the present and hope for the future. We can do this together. It’s Closing Time. Let’s put our heads on the pillow and be at peace so that we can wake up in 2020 with light, love and pure intention to have our best year yet!
